In preparation for the upcoming Eid ul Adha celebrations, the Muslim Council of Hong Kong (MCHK) has drafted a special leave letter that can be used by Muslims in the city to request time off from work or school.

Eid ul Adha, also known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” is one of the most significant religious celebrations in the Islamic calendar. It commemorates the Prophet Ibrahim’s (peace be upon him) willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to Allah (God). For Muslims, this sacred occasion is marked by prayers, family gatherings, gift-giving, and charitable donations.

Recognizing the importance of Eid ul Adha for the Muslim community, MCHK has provided a template letter that can be submitted to employers or school administrations. The letter outlines the religious and cultural significance of the festival and respectfully requests a day of leave to allow Muslims to fully participate in the celebrations.

The letter is available in both English and Chinese.
